WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team completed action at the three-day Purdue Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 5) at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The event marked the beginning of fall action for the Wolverines, who also competed at the ITA All-American (Sept. 30-Oct. 3) this past week.
Michigan went 4-3 on the doubles court, highlighted by three wins by the freshman duo of Mira Ruder-Hook (Denver, Colo./Laurel Springs) and Alex Najarian (Birmingham, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood). The duo went 2-0 on the first day of action (Friday, Oct. 3), picking up an 8-5 win over Miami (Ohio) and an 8-6 win over the pair from Memphis. The Maize and Blue rounded out the event with an 8-3 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday (Oct. 4).
On the singles front, sophomore Sara Remynse (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) picked up the biggest win of the weekend by knocking off No. 101 Marta Morga of Memphis in straights sets (6-1, 6-1).
All five Wolverines who competed at Purdue recorded at least one singles win, led by Remynse with three wins and Ruder-Hook and Najarian each with two. Senior Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and freshman Kara Hall (Greenwood Village, Colo./Evert Tennis Academy) each won a singles match as well.
Michigan returns to action on Oct. 16, competing at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Champaign, Ill. The event runs from Oct. 16-21, with the winners advancing to the ITA Indoor Championships.
