Today's contest marked the 10th all-time meeting between Michigan and Arizona. With today's 80-53 loss, Michigan is now 2-8 overall against the Wildcats. U-M is now 1-2 in games played in Tucson. U-M won, 88-73, on Dec. 30, 1957, and lost, 119-95, during the Fiesta Bowl Classic on Dec. 30, 1993.
Today's game was the first true road game for the Wolverines. U-M had played two neutral-site games in the Progressive Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Michigan drops to 6-4 on the season. Last season, the Wolverines also started 6-4 but ended up going 28-9, winning the Big Ten regular season and advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight.
The 27-point loss is the second-worst defeat in the John Beilein Michigan era. Duke defeated Beilein's Wolverines in his first season in Ann Arbor (2007-08) by 28 (95-67) on Dec. 8, 2007.
Arizona is the second Pac-12 opponent U-M has faced this season. In mid-November, the Wolverines defeated Oregon, 70-63, in the semifinal of the Legends Classic.
The last time U-M lost three straight games was four seasons ago (2010-11). The Wolverines had a six-game slide just after the start of Big Ten play. The Maize and Blue lost at Wisconsin (Jan. 5, 66-50), at Indiana (Jan. 15, 80-61), at Northwestern (Jan. 18, 74-60) and against No. 15 Minnesota (Jan. 22, 69-64).
Michigan had seven steals against the Wildcats. U-M has had at least six or more as a team over its last five games and seven total times this season. With one swipe, Caris LeVert has had at least one steal in every game this season.
Michigan was 7-for-26 from long range for a 26.9 percentage. It is the third time this season U-M has shot less than 30 percent on three-point field goals -- vs. No. 12 Villanova (28.6%) and Eastern Michigan (19.0%).
Zak Irvin was the only Wolverine to score in double figures, closing with 14 points, including two long range buckets. He has at least one triple in every game this season. He leads U-M with 28 total three-pointers.
After scoring in double figures in seven straight games, Caris LeVert finished with eight points. He still leads U-M with 16.7 points per game.
Derrick Walton Jr., who had five assists and no turnovers today, has at least three assists in each of his last three games. He had 15 total assists in his first five games before missing the Nicholls State game due to injury. Since returning he has double his total assists to 30 after dishing 15 assists in four games.
After missing his two three-point attempts, Max Bielfeldt is now 3-for-5 from long range on the season. Frontcourt mate Mark Donnal made his only long-range attempt and is now 2-for-3 on the season.
Spike Albrecht extended his consecutive games played streak to 86. He has not missed a game in three seasons. Irvin also continued his streak playing in 47 straight games as he has not missed a game in two seasons.
