Tonight's game is part of the 2014 Progressive Legends Classic. As a host school, U-M welcomed Bucknell tonight (Nov. 17) and will bring in the University of Detroit later this week (Nov. 20) as part of the tournament's regional rounds. The Wolverines will then move on to Brooklyn, N.Y., Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 24-25) for the championship rounds at the Barclays Center. U-M will face Oregon on Monday and will play the winner of the VCU-Villanova matchup on Tuesday.
Michigan last played in the Legends Classic during the 2010-11 season. The Wolverines opened by hosting a pair of regional games in Ann Arbor that season as well, both of which were also victories.
Tonight's victory over Bucknell came in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Wolverines assisted on 18 of their 29 made baskets (62 percent), led by six helpers apiece from Spike Albrecht and Caris LeVert. Albrecht recorded a team-best 4.6:1 assist-to-turnover ratio last season for the Wolverines (75:16) and has tallied eight assists without a turnover so far this year. LeVert has totaled 15 assists without a turnover.
As a team, U-M pulled down 37 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end, giving it 72 boards through two contests this season.
Michigan held Bucknell to 19-for-48 (39.6 percent) from the floor, including just 6-of-20 (30 percent) from beyond the arc.
The Wolverines continued their team trend of low turnovers and fouls, tallying just six turnovers while forcing 17 from the Bisons and picking up 13 personal fouls.
Max Bielfeldt checked into the game early in the first half and promptly sank a three-point basket, his first made triple since Michigan traveled to Iowa last season (Feb. 8, 2014). Bielfeldt finished the game with new career highs in points (18), field goals attempted (nine) and made (seven) and three-point field goals attempted (three) and made (three).
With his 23 points tonight, Zak Irvin became the first U-M player to register back-to-back 20-point efforts since Nik Stauskas dropped 24 and 21 against Illinois (March 14) and Indiana (March 8) last season.
Today's starting lineup consisted of Derrick Walton Jr., Caris LeVert, Zak Irvin, Kameron Chatman and Mark Donnal.
Attendance at today's Legends Classic opener was 12,181.
