Wolverines Wrap Up Play at Big Ten Individuals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sophomores Tyler Gardiner and Kevin Wong of the University of Michigan men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the main doubles draw at the Big Ten Men's Individual Championships this week (Oct. 31-Nov. 3) held at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The duo of Gardiner and Wong won two matches on Friday (Oct. 31), defeating the Purdue pairing of Lucas Dages and Mateus Silva in the first round, 8-3, before knocking off the Minnesota tandem of Eric Frueh and Felix Corwin, 8-4, in the quarterfinals. Gardiner and Wong eventually bowed out of the main doubles draw, falling to Iowa's Matt Hagan and Dominic Patrick, 8-4, in the semifinals.
Gardiner, Wong and sophomore/freshman Davis Crocker represented the Maize and Blue in the main singles draw. Playing in his second career tournament for the Maize and Blue, Crocker won two of three singles matches, downing Wisconsin's Michael Sinha (7-6 (5), 1-0 ret.) and prevailing over Nebraska's Bradford Zitsch (6-3, 6-3). Wong, meanwhile, picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Wisconsin's Jakhongir Jalalov in the consolation bracket.
The Wolverines will wrap up their fall slate next weekend (Fri-Sun., Nov. 7-9) at the Lakewood Ranch Invitational in Sarasota, Fla.
