Oct. 25, 2014
The Wolverines made their first-ever trip to UMass-Lowell, with all three previous meetings taking place at Yost Ice Arena. With the win, U-M now leads the all-time series 3-1.
Senior forward Zach Hyman recorded five points (3G, 2A), including a natural hat trick. Hyman's five-point night was the first for a Wolverine since Aaron Palushaj had five points (G, 4A) against Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 13, 2009. Hyman had the first hat trick since Andrew Sinelli had three goals against Michigan State on March 7, 2014.
Michigan recorded eight or more goals in a game for the first time since Oct. 13, 2011, when the Wolverines earned a 10-3 win over St. Lawrence at Yost Ice Arena. The eight goals are the most by a Michigan team in a road game since an 8-5 win at Notre Dame on Nov. 4, 2005.
Twelve different Wolverines recorded points in the contest, and four had multiple point nights (Hyman, Larkin, Kile and Werenski).
Freshman forward Dylan Larkin recorded four points (G, 3A), the most points by a Michigan freshman since JT Compher had four points (2G, 2A) against Michigan State on Jan. 24, 2014.
For the fourth straight game to start the season, the Wolverines outshot their opponents in the first period (15-6). The Wolverines held a 38-33 shot advantage for the game.
The Wolverines finished 1-for-1 on the power play and penalty kill, their first perfect performance on special teams this season. Michigan scored on the power play for the first time this season.
Junior goaltender Steve Racine made 29 saves in net to earn his second straight win. Racine improved his career record to 21-10-4.
With three-points tonight (G, 2A), Alex Kile now has points in each of Michigan's first four games (2G, 4A). Hyman now has points in each of his last three games (3G, 4A).
Michigan head coach Red Berenson needs just 11 wins to become the fourth head coach in Division I men's hockey with 800 victories. Berenson recorded his 789th victory behind the bench tonight.
