Wolverines to Host ITA Midwest Regional Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team will host the five-day ITA Midwest Regional Championships this week (Oct. 16-20) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The winners of each draw will receive berths to the ITA National Indoor Championships (Nov. 6-9). The Wolverines are hosting the event for the first time since 2009.
Sophomore Tyler Gardiner (Novi, Mich./Northville HS) and redshirt freshman Davis Crocker (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) will participate in the singles qualifying draw, which begins on Thursday (Oct. 16). The remainder of the Wolverines -- seniors Alex Petrone (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs Prep) and Michael Zhu (Princeton, N.J./Keystone National), sophomore Kevin Wong (Hong Kong/Diocesa), redshirt freshman Alex Knight (Miami Shores, Fla./Michael Kropp HS) and freshman Runhao Hua (Shanghai, China/Edison Academics) are slated for competition in the main draw starting Friday (Oct. 17).
Michigan's doubles lineup for the tournament, as of Wednesday (Oct. 15), is Petrone and Hua; Wong and Zhu; and Crocker and Gardner.
It will be U-M's only appearance at the Varsity Tennis Center until January when the Wolverines open up their dual-match season against Western Michigan on Jan. 20.
