ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior co-captains Shelina Zadorsky (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Nkem Ezurike (Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia/Sackville) scored second-half goals to guide the No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Detroit on Thursday (Sept. 12) at U-M Soccer Stadium. With the win, the Wolverines have started the season with six straight victories, the best start in the 20-year history of the program.

During the scoreless first 45 minutes, Michigan held the edge in shots, 9-0, including two on goal. Freshman Nicky Waldeck (Chicago, Ill./Western Reserve Academy [OH]) had the best opportunity of the opening frame, sending a shot from left-to-right inside the goal area, but Detroit goalkeeper Martha Dunbar made a diving save.
The Wolverines broke through in the 56th minute. The play started as Zadorsky, the eventual goal scorer, sent the ball into the box off a corner kick. The ball popped out of the box, and senior Meghan Toohey (Philadelphia, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) won a battle with a Detroit defender. After receiving a pass from Toohey, junior Christina Murillo (Ojai, Calif./Nordhoff) fed a wide-open Zadorsky, who took three dribbles to the far corner of the 18 and fired a bouncer past Dunbar into the back-left corner.
Ezurike added an insurance goal with less than two minutes to play to seal the victory. Freshman Madisson Lewis (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) played a ball into Ezurike, who turned a defender perfectly and blasted a shot from 20 yards out that bounced off the crossbar and down into the net.
Freshman Taylor Bucklin (Greenwich, Conn./Brookfield) played all 90 minutes without making a save, earning her second shutout in as many matches. Michigan outshot the Titans by a dominating 27-2 margin.
Michigan wraps up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sunday (Sept. 15), taking on Butler at 1 p.m. in Indianapolis, Ind.
