Women's Track and Field
Tiffany (Ofili) Porter (2006-09) of Great Britain finished third in heat one of the opening round of the 100-meter hurdles at Olympic Stadium to clinch the final qualifying spot for tomorrow's (Aug. 7) semifinal round at 2:15 p.m. EDT. Porter established a quick lead out of the blocks and was able to hold on to third place in a time of 12.79. Canada's Nicole (Edwards) Sifuentes (2005-08) competed in round one of the 1,500-meter run, finishing seventh in heat three with a time of 4:07.65, to qualify for the semifinals. She was sitting in 11th place at the start of the bell lap and made a strong kick in the final 200 meters to move into seventh. Sifuentes was just one spot shy of automatically qualifying but recorded one of the next six fastest times to advance to Wednesday's (Aug. 8) semifinals at 2:45 p.m. EDT.
