ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Lulu Haidar (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Crestwood) scored a set-play goal in the 98th minute to give the University of Michigan women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday (Aug. 24) at U-M Soccer Stadium. A foul was called on Cal State Fullerton about 30 yards from the goal on the far side of the field, allowing Haidar to fire her shot at the net, which lightly bounced off the crossbar and in.

The Wolverines played the majority of the first half on defense, yielding eight shots to Cal State Fullerton while only getting two on the other end (both on goal). Sophomore defenseman Jen Pace (Valley Village, Calif./Notre Dame) put Michigan ahead 1-0 with her first career goal in the 67th minute. The score was a result of a brilliant corner kick from junior Shelby Chambers-Garcia (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente), who sent the ball directly into the six-yard box, where it fell to Pace after a scramble and failed clearing attempt by the Titans defense.
With time winding down in the second half, Cal State Fullerton pushed ahead and tied the match up with less than four minutes to play on a header goal from Stacey Fox that got past from fifth-year senior goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser).
The Wolverines had one final shot as time expired in regulation. Haidar sent the ball far into the box to junior Tori McCombs (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry), who appeared to score a goal just as time expired. But following a brief referee conference, the goal was waved off and the two teams went to overtime, with Haidar scoring eight minutes into the first session.
Cal State Fullerton outshot the Wolverines in the contest, 19-15, but Michigan placed more shots on goal at a 9-7 clip. Kopmeyer made six saves in the contest, moving her into sole possession of second place on the school's all-time list for career saves (314).
Michigan looks to remain perfect as it concludes a four-match homestand on Sunday (Aug. 26) against Detroit. The match will start at 5 p.m. inside at the U-M Soccer Stadium.
