
Michigan Cheerleading Team Finishes Second at National Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The University of Michigan cheerleading team placed second at the 2012 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship held this past weekend Daytona Beach, Fla. This is the largest college cheer and dance championship in the world.
The Wolverines finished as the national runner-up in the Coed Intermediate competition behind national champion James Madison University. There were 17 schools in the Michigan's division.
"I am extremely proud of this team," said cheerleading coach Pam St. John. "They worked extremely hard to get this opportunity and put it all together on the biggest stage in sport. This is a great accomplishment for this group of student-athletes."
Team members include Lindsay Allen, Kyle Burdette, Emily Caoagas, David Clarke, Maureen Conley, Katherine Cummings, Alexandria Deluca, Alexandra Dewulf, Alyson Endicott, Jessica Gelov, Cassandra Gelov, Kristopher Hamoud, Dominic Haywood, Adam Karpinski, Kevin Mantay, Samuel Mayer, Michael Meehan, Grant Peterson, Shannon Niznik, Carly Pinkerton, Alexander Rodriguez, William Russell, Gregory Seraydarian and Jennifer Triplett. St. John is assisted by Anthony Bougard and Elisabeth Tyzo-DePaulis.
The runner-up finish is the highest that the Michigan cheerleading team has placed in the competition.
