• Mon-Wed., Aug. 15-17, 2011 -- Jack Schultz tied for 12th with a 295 72-hole total at the Wisconsin State Open. After taking the first day lead with a 69, he followed with rounds of 77 and 78 before closing with a 71 to earn the top-15 finish. [ Wisconsin State Open | Full Leaderboard ]
• Thu-Sun., Aug. 11-14, 2011 -- Miguel Echavarria tied for 37th with a 291 72-hole total at the 2011 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship played at Niakwa Country Club in Winnepeg, Manitoba. Opening with a one-over 72, he followed with rounds of 73, a second one-over 72 and a closing 74 over the course the event to finish among the top 40. [ Canadian Amateur | Full Leaderboard ]
• Mon-Sat., Aug. 1-6, 2011 -- Matt Thompson was the top finishing Wolverine at the Western Amateur as he tied for 38th closing. After opening with rounds of 73 and 71, Thompson made the cut and followed with a 68 and closing 74 to post a 287 54-hole total and tie for 38th at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill. He missed advancing to match play by five shots. Other Wolverines in the field included Joey Garber, who tied for 56th at 145 (71-74), Jack Schultz, who tied for 116th at 152 (76-76) and Mike Affeldt, who was 154th at 163 (83-80). • Mon-Thu., July 18-21, 2011 -- With a two-over 286 tally, Jack Schultz finished as the medalist runner-up at the 2011 Wisconsin Amateur Championship at the Maple Bluff Country Club in Madison, Wis. After opening with rounds of 73 and 74, he put himself in contention with a five-under 66 in the third round. Closing with a 73 in the final round, he finished a single shot out of medalist honors. • Mon-Thu., July 11-14, 2011 -- Matt Thompson closed as the runner-up at the 2011 Michigan Open with a 15-under 273 (70-66-69-68) held at the Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Mich. After trailing by four shots heading into the final round, Thompson made a strong move in the final round to pass leader Randy Hutchison. With Thompson holding a one-shot lead going into the final hole, he bogeyed the hole, while Hutchison birdied for a two-shot swing, giving the title to Hutchison. Former Wolverine Brian Ottenweller (2005-08) shot a final-round five-under 67 to finish third at 13-under 275 (71-67-70-67), while Joey Garber tied for eighth at six-under 282 (73-68-67-74). • Mon-Sat., June 27-June 30, 2011 -- After stroke play qualifying rounds of 77 and 71, Jack Schultz tied for 27th (148) and advanced to match play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon Dunes, Ore. Playing as the 27th seed, Schultz won his opening match against No. 38 Andrew Gain, 6-and-5. He defeated No. 6 Chris Williams in the second round, 3-and-2 to move to the Round of 16 before dropping a 4-and-3 decision to No. 22 Daniel Miernicki to be eliminated. • Tue-Sun., June 21-25, 2011 -- The 100th Michigan Amateur Championship took place at the Boyne Highlands Resort. Joey Garber, the 2010 defending champion, and Matt Thompson were in the field, as well as former Wolverines Steve Maddalena (1979-82), Adam Anderson (1995-97) and former Wolverine Nick Pumford's (2006-09) father, Al.
After closing with a 140 (71-69) stroke-play total, Thompson claimed medalist honors and the No. 1 seed in match play, while Garber's 141 (71-70) gave him a runner-up finish and the second seed. Maddalena (77-78/155), Anderson (81-80/161) and Al Pumford (77-84/161) did not advance to match play.
Garber advanced to the championship match after making his way through his bracket but lost, 4-and-3, to Willie Mack III. Thompson almost made it a Maize and Blue finale, but Mack defeated Thompson, 1-up, in their semifinal. [ Michigan Amateur Championship | Match Play Bracket ]

• Thu-Sun., June 23-26, 2011 -- Former Wolverine Andy Matthews played in the Nationwide Tour's Mexico Open at the El Bosque Golf Club in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. Matthews finished 65th with a 295 tally. After opening with a 74, he rallied in the second round with a 69 to make the weekend cut. He closed with rounds of 73 and 79. • Wed-Sat., June 22-25, 2011 -- Former Wolverine Lion Kim competed at the 50th Northeast Amateur Invitational Golf Tournament at the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, R.I. • Mon-Sat., June 13-18, 2011 -- Using six birdies in his final round, Matt Thompson closed with a five-under 65 to tie for fifth at the Monroe Invitational Championship at the Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y. Thompson finished with a four-under 276 (66-71-74-65), while Joey Garber tied for 19th with a 285 (73-67-72-73). [ Final Leaderboard ]
• Thu-Sun., June 16-19, 2011 -- Playing in his third career U.S. Open, former Wolverine Justin Hicks continued to have a strong rookie season on the PGA Tour, tying for 60th at the tour's second major event of the season. After opening with a 74, Hicks followed with a 71 to make the cut. In the third round, he posted a 76 before closing with a Sunday 71 for a 292 total. [ Final Leaderboard | Justin Hicks Scorecard ]
• Mon-Thu., June 13-16, 2011 -- Using a birdie on the 19th hole in the final round, Jack Schultz won the WSGA Match Play Championship at the Links at Grand Geneva. The victory was the first WSGA championship for Schultz. After five straight match wins, Schultz squared off against Ricky Hearden in the championship match. Schultz found himself 2-down entering the final two holes. Needing to win both to extend the match, Schultz drained a 30-foot birdie putt on 17 and made par from a fairway bunker on 18 to win both holes and extend the match. On the first extra hole, the 19th hole of the match, Schultz hit a perfect drive in the fairway and hit his approach shot to five feet. • Monday, June 6, 2011 -- Jack Schultz won his U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship qualifier at the Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis., with a 143, six shots better than the runner-up. He will head to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., to compete from June 27-July 2. U-M's Lion Kim won last year's event to earn an invitation to the 2011 Masters. [ Qualifier Results | USAPL ]
• Monday, June 6, 2011 -- Former Wolverine Justin Hicks qualified for his third U.S. Open after shooting a 135 (69-66) at his Sectional Qualifier at the Brookside Golf and Country Club/Lakes Golf and Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. Recently graduated Wolverine Lion Kim withdrew from his Sectional qualifier after opening with a 72 at the Tunica National in Memphis, Tenn. [ Columbus Results | Memphis Results ]
