With the win, Michigan improves to 15-10 (5-7 Big Ten) for the 2010-11 season, and it matches the win total from last season. This was U-M's fourth win in its last five games. The Wolverines are now 12-4 at Crisler Arena.
With the win, Michigan improves to 103-56 (97-55) all-time against Northwestern. The Wolverines are now 59-20 against the Wildcats in Ann Arbor. The win snaps a three-game losing streak to Northwestern, dating back to Feb. 15, 2009.
Wednesday's game marked the second matchup this season between Michigan and Northwestern. The teams split the two games, with each team winning at home. In the first meeting, the Wildcats defeated the Wolverines, 74-60, on Jan. 18.
Jordan Morgan led the Wolverines with a career-high 27 points on 11-of-13 (85 percent) shooting, including 5-of-8 (63 percent) from the free throw line. This was the third game this season in which Morgan held at least a share of the team lead in scoring. Morgan added a steal and a career-high three blocks in the win.
Tim Hardaway Jr. recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. This marks the 10th time in the last 11 games Hardaway has scored double-digit points. Hardaway added four assists in the win.
Darius Morris scored 11 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Morris has held at least a share of the team high in assists in all but two games this season. Morris added seven rebounds and a steal in the win.
The Wolverines shot 27-of-52 (52 percent) from the field for the game, 13-of-29 (45 percent) in the first half and 14-of-23 (61 percent) in the second half.
U-M shot 15-of-21 (72 percent) from the free throw line. This was the highest total the Wolverines have made from the charity stripe in Big Ten play.
Michigan's defense held Northwestern's John Shurna, the conference's fourth-leading scorer, to four points in 25 minutes, 14 points below his season average. Shurna scored 24 points in the two teams' first meeting on Jan. 18.
Michigan won the rebounding battle, 38-25, its largest rebounding margin in conference play. U-M is 9-1 this season when it outrebounds its opponent.
Michigan had 16 assists and turned the ball over 13 times. The Wolverines are 11-5 this season when it records a positive assist/turnover ratio.
The Wolverine defense forced Northwestern into 11 turnovers, leading to 16 points. Michigan is 8-5 this season when it commits more turnovers than its opponent.
Michigan outscored Northwestern in points in the paint (40-24) and second-chance points (13-10). The Wildcats outscored the Wolverines in points off turnovers (23-16).
The game featured four lead changes and three ties. Michigan never trailed after taking a 14-12 lead on a Jordan Morgan layup with 7:04 left in the first half, leading by as much as 15.
The Wolverines wore their white jerseys for the ninth time this season. Michigan is now 8-1 this season when wearing white.
Michigan went with the starting lineup of Darius Morris, Stu Douglass, Zack Novak, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jordan Morgan. This was Douglass' second start of the season and his first since the Big Ten opener against Purdue on Dec. 28.
