With the defeat, Michigan falls to 13-10 overall and 3-7 in the Big Ten. U-M is now 2-4 on the road this season.
The loss drops Michigan to 72-95 all-time against Ohio State (64-92*). The Buckeyes hold a 54-27 lead in the series in games played in Columbus. Ohio State has won seven straight at home in the series.
This was the second meeting of the season between Michigan and Ohio State. The Buckeyes won 68-64 in Ann Arbor on Jan. 12, 2011.
Michigan is now 1-6 this season against ranked opponents.
U-M was playing the top-ranked team in the nation for the 23rd time in school history. The Wolverines are 1-22 all-time against No. 1 ranked foes. This was the sixth time Michigan has played Ohio State when the Buckeyes were ranked No. 1; Ohio State has won all six meetings. The one win came against Duke in 1997.
The Maize and Blue has played the No. 1-ranked team in the nation on the road in each of the past three seasons, playing at Connecticut (Feb. 7, 2009), at Kansas (Dec. 19, 2009) and at Ohio State (Feb. 3, 2011).
With four assists, Darius Morris moves past Eric Turner (160, 1982-83) into ninth place on Michigan's single-season assist list.
Tim Hardaway Jr. led Michigan in scoring for the second straight game with 15 points. Hardaway has now scored in double figures 15 times during his freshman season and has led U-M in scoring on five occasions.
Darius Morris netted 12 points for the Maize and Blue. Morris has scored in double figures in 19-of-23 games this season.
Zack Novak led the Wolverines with six rebounds. Novak, who is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game, has led U-M in rebounding in 11 games this season.
Michigan and Ohio State each had 10 assists in the contest.
The Wolverines led 26-23 at halftime. Michigan is now 11-3 when leading at the half this season.
Michigan forced Ohio State into 10 first-half turnovers and 14 for the game. The Buckeyes came into the game averaging 10.8 turnovers per game.
