
Wolverines Take Final Three CWPA Weekly Accolades

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Junior Lauren Orth (Poway, Calif./Poway), junior Cara Reitz (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) and freshman Lauren Colton (Tustin, Calif./Tesoro) of the No. 6-ranked University of Michigan water polo team were named CWPA Western Division Player, Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Friday (May 21). The trio of Wolverines helped the Maize and Blue to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championship (May 21).
Orth was nearly perfect at the five meter line, scoring seven-of-eight penalty shots as part of an 11-point championship. Orth dented the twine four times on five-meter penalty shot against No. 4-ranked California in the opening round before adding three goals, including two five-meter scores, and an assist in an 11-3 victory over Pomona-Pitzer. In the tournament's fifth place game against No. 1-ranked UCLA, she continued her scoring streak with another penalty toss goal to go with a pair of helpers.
Colton contributed two goals, an assist, a steal and five ejections on the week en route to her second Rookie of the Week award this season. Taking on California in the opening round of the tournament, she contributed a steal, an ejection drawn and two five-meter penalty shots-drawn before posting a goal, an assist and three drawn kickouts in an 11-3 victory against Pomona-Pitzer. Colton concluded the tournament with a goal and a kickout-drawn in the fifth place game against UCLA in a narrow 9-6 Michigan loss.
Reitz posted three goals, six steals, a field block and two ejections-drawn to earn her first career Defensive Player of the Week recognition. In opening round action against Cal, she contributed a steal and a field block and added two goals, an assist, four steals and a kickout-drawn in an 11-3 victory over Pomona-Pitzer in the consolation semifinals. Reitz concluded tournament play with a goal, a steal and a kickout-drawn in U-M's fifth place game loss to UCLA.
Michigan finished the 2010 season with a 33-8 record, establishing a new program record for winning percentage (.805) and losses (8).
