OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- University of Michigan junior RHP Jordan Taylor (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) has been selected for the 2010 USA Softball Women's Futures National Team. The team, which includes both USA Softball rookies and those with program experience, consists of athletes who currently play or have played at 13 schools in six Division I conferences.
Taylor will be one of 20 athletes who will represent the United States this summer at competitions and exhibitions in Canada and Japan. The athletes, who are members of the 2010 USA Softball Women's National Team and the Women's Future National Team, will participate in three events over two months:
Event | Date | Location |
Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship | July 7-11 | Surrey, B.C. |
Exhibition games | July 13-14 | Whitehorse, Yukon |
Japan Cup | August 3-9 | Sendai City, Japan |
Taylor is in the midst of a stellar junior season, leading the Maize and Blue with a 23-3 record, 1.41 ERA and 264 strikeouts. She owns a pair of perfect games and three no-hitters on the season and has averaged 11 strikeouts per seven-inning game -- a figure that ranks 10th nationally.
With her upcoming participation in the Canada Cup and Japan Cup, Taylor will be the third current member of the Wolverine team to garner international playing experience. Senior LHP Nikki Nemitz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Regina HS) and senior third baseman Maggie Viefhaus (Eureka, Mo./Eureka HS) contributed to Team USA's gold-medal performance at the 2009 Pan-American Qualifier in Maracay, Venezuela, while Viefhaus also captured gold at the 2007 Junior World Cup and the 2006 Junior Pan American Championships.
