ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head coach Bruce Berque announced Tuesday (April 20) the addition of Barrett Franks of Christchurch, New Zealand, to join Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview Old Bethpage JFK) and Justin Rossi (Novi, Mich./Laurel Springs Prep) as Wolverines beginning in the 2010-11 season.

"We are very proud that Barrett Franks will be joining our program next season," Berque said. "We expect that Barrett will make an immediate impact in both singles and doubles, and we have complete confidence that he will work and compete hard every time he steps on the court to represent Michigan."

Franks has been ranked as high as No. 67 in the ITF Junior rankings and is a member of the New Zealand Junior Davis Cup team. He holds four ITF titles (two singles and two doubles) and was among the final 32 at the Australian Open Juniors in 2010. Franks holds a career record of 58-34 in singles and 45-33 in doubles. He also holds U-14 and U-16 national titles in New Zealand.

Franks joins a class that has been rated as third-best nationally by recruiting website tennisrecruiting.net. Both Bernstein and Rossi are "blue chip" recruits and are ranked among the top 20 boys players in the nation; Bernstein is No. 13 and Rossi is No. 16. Michigan has had top-five recruiting classes in four of the past five seasons.

"Barrett, along with Shaun Bernstein and Justin Rossi, will have a significant impact on what this program accomplishes over the next four years," Berque said. "We couldn't be more excited about the athletic skills, passion for the game, and personal character that our recruiting class will bring to Ann Arbor next fall."

The Wolverines will lose seniors George Navas (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory) and Mike Sroczynski (Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs Prep) to graduation after the season.
