With the victory, Michigan moves to 4-2 on the season.
U-M was playing in its 10th all-time ACC/Big Ten Challenge; the Wolverines are now 4-6 in the event. Michigan did not participate in 2001 or 2002.
Michigan is now 1-3 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on the road.
The Wolverines are now 4-0 all-time against Clemson. Michigan's last meeting with the Tigers prior to tonight was in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament on March 19, 2009, a 62-59 U-M victory.
John Beilein improved to 3-0 in his career against Clemson. Beilein's previous meetings with the Tigers were in the 2009 NCAA Tournament first round while at Michigan and in the 2007 NIT championship game while at West Virginia.
Tonight was Michigan's first true road game of the season. The Wolverines played a pair of neutral-site games against Syracuse and UTEP in the Legends Classic in Atlantic City, N.J.
Michigan won its first true road game of the season for the first time since the 2005-06 campaign. That year, the Wolverines defeated Boston University, 51-46, in their first road game (Nov. 22, 2005).
Evan Smotrycz scored a career-high 18 points. His previous career best was 14 against Bowling Green on Nov. 14.
Darius Morris tied a career high with seven rebounds. Morris also had seven boards in Michigan's last contest against UTEP (Nov. 27).
Morris also set a new career high with four steals; his previous high was three, a mark he has reached twice in his career, including last time out against UTEP (Nov. 27).
Morris played a career-best 39 minutes, bettering his previous high of 35, set against UTEP (Nov. 27).
Michigan's 60.0 percent (15-of-25) shooting from the field in the first half was the highest field goal percentage in a half for U-M this season. The last time the Wolverines shot better than 60 percent in a half was the second half against Minnesota last season (March 2, 2010), when U-M shot 66.7 percent (16-of-24).
The Wolverines wore their Blue jerseys for the second time this season, improving to 1-1 this season while wearing blue. Under John Beilein, the Wolverines are now 11-27 when wearing blue.
For the sixth straight game, Michigan went with the starting lineup of Darius Morris, Zack Novak, Tim Hardaway Jr., Evan Smotrycz, and Jordan Morgan.
