The starting five for Michigan were Zack Novak (guard), Darius Morris (guard), Tim Hardaway, Jr. (guard), Evan Smotrycz (forward) and Jordan Morgan (forward).
All six freshmen (four freshmen, two redshirt freshmen) saw action in the exhibition against Saginaw Valley State. In total, 10 players saw court action, with nine recording at least one field goal.
Sophomore guard Darius Morris led all scorers with 18 points (3-8 FG, 12-17 FT). He also had five rebounds and two assists.
Freshman Evan Smotrycz had 12 points (2-8 FG, 7-9 FT). He was also one rebound shy of a double-double (nine).
Redshirt freshman Jordan Morgan led all players with 15 rebounds (five offensive, 10 defensive). He also added nine points.
Freshman Tim Hardaway, Jr. chipped in eight points and two rebounds.
Sophomore Matt Vogrich came off the bench to scored seven points, going 3-of-5 from the field.
Juniors Stu Douglass and Zack Novak combined for nine points and nine rebounds.
Michigan scored 27 of its 68 points from the free-throw line, converting 27-of-41 attempts (65 percent). By comparison, Saginaw Valley State went 7-of-16 (43 percent) from the line.
Last season, Michigan made as many as 18 free throws in a game (Northern Michigan - Nov. 14, 2009) and had 23 free-throw attempts (Creighton).
Morris and Smotrycz combined to have 19 of Michigan's 29 free-throw makes.
Michigan outrebounded Saginaw Valley State, 49-41. The Wolverines also held edges in points in the paint (26-16), points off turnovers (10-8), assists (12-8), blocks (3-1) and steals (4-1).
Michigan shot 35 percent (19-54 FG) from the field for the game, going 12-for-26 (46 percent) in the first half and 7-of-28 (25 percent) in the second half.
The Wolverines never trailed in the game and twice led by as many as 20. They outscored Saginaw Valley State in both halves (first: 32-24; second: 36-35).
Attendance was 8,470.
