With the loss, Michigan falls to 3-2 on the season.
Saturday's game marked the fifth all-time meeting between Michigan and UTEP and their first since the 2006 Postseason NIT. With the loss, Michigan is now 3-2 all-time against the Miners.
Darius Morris led the Wolverines with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting (73 percent). He also led the team with a career-high seven rebounds. Morris added team highs with four assists and three steals.
Zack Novak scored 10 points on 1-of-5 shooting (20 percent), with one three-pointer. It was his first double-digit scoring effort of the season.
Novak made a career-high seven free throws, shooting 7-for-8 (88 percent) from the charity stripe. Novak added five rebounds and a steal in the loss.
At one point, Michigan went 13:24 without a field goal, going back to Darius Morris' layup with 2:01 to go in the first, and extending to Morris' jumper with 8:37 to go in the second half. The Wolverines only made seven field goals in the second half.
As a team, Michigan shot 30 percent from the field (16-of-53). This was U-M's lowest shooting percentage for the season. The Wolverines also shot 17 percent (5-of-29) from three-point range, also a new season low.
For the second straight game, the Wolverines lost the rebounding battle, 40-31. Both games resulted in losses for U-M.
The Wolverines wore their Blue jerseys for the first time this season. Under John Beilein, the Wolverines are now 10-27 when wearing Blue.
For the fifth straight game, Michigan went with the starting lineup of Darius Morris, Zack Novak, Tim Hardaway Jr., Evan Smotrycz, and Jordan Morgan.
