Wolverines Open Fall Slate Against Michigan State

BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team kicked off the 2009-10 season with a fall scrimmage against Michigan State and Eastern Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 19) at Belleville Lake.
"It was good to get an early scrimmage to give us a good baseline of where we're starting," said Michigan head coach Mark Rothstein. "I thought we did some things well today, but we have a lot of work ahead of us."
The teams raced 5x4 with two flights, one consisting of eights and the other a flight of fours. In eights, Michigan, Michigan State and Eastern Michigan each fielded two boats, while in the fours Michigan fielded two boats and Michigan State fielded one boat.
Michigan State won each flight of eights, with the Wolverines taking runner-up spots in each of the races. In the fours, Michigan took the top spot in each race followed by Michigan State.
The Wolverines will race next on Oct. 3 when Ohio State comes up for a scrimmage. U-M will go the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass., on Oct. 25 before returning home to host the Belleville Classic on Nov. 7.
