At the 2008 Summer Olympics, 28 Michigan students, coaches and staff represented theMaize and Bluein Beijing. In addition, cross country and track and field coach Ron Warhurst traveled to Beijing as a personal coach; Bernice Orwig, a former U-M water polo assistant coach, served as team leader for USA Water Polo; and former Wolverine pitcher Steve Ontiveros (1980-82), who pitched 14 seasons in the Major Leagues (1985-97 and 2000), was the pitching coach for host China.
