COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Heavy rains in the Columbus area forced the cancellation of Sunday's (March 1) games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, prematurely ending the No. 6-ranked University of Michigan softball team's action at the tournament for the third time in five years.
Ohio State completed the weekend with a 3-0 record to lead all teams at the South Commons Complex before the area was hit with a large storm that blanketed the area for nearly 24 hours, leaving behind more than three inches of rain.
The final two rounds of games on Friday and the entire Saturday schedule were cancelled, and roughly half of the 21 teams in the tournament traveled home mid-day on Saturday. The remaining 11 teams completed a modified schedule of six games on Saturday night before additional overnight rains rendered the outfields on all fields unplayable.
The Wolverines (13-5) will return to action next weekend (March 7-8) in Louisville, Ky., for their annual appearance at the Louisville Tournament. U-M will open the event with a non-conference game against host Louisville at Ulmer Stadium.
