Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "Well we got pretty much what we expected from Miami. We knew they would be a good team. We needed to have a better start ourselves and we could not get that first goal. Obviously, when they got that first goal, along with being on the road and getting that first power-play goal, it helps. When one of our best penalty killers gets a penalty, which put us down four-on-three and is now sitting in the box, that did not help us. The second period I thought our team really bounced back and played with a lot more confidence and momentum. We had our chances and just did not capitalize on them. We hit at least three posts and had a couple other opportunities that just did not go in. In the third period, when we were only a goal away, we gave up a bad goal. The third goal hurt us and you do not get goals back on this team. They are a stingy team and a good team. They played a good road game and we did not play a good home game."
On missing scoring opportunities ... "It depends on how you look at it, but that is one way of looking at it. We had missed scoring chances and if you put those chances in that are pretty good -- I would call those grade-A scoring chances -- and if you measure them you probably have the edge if you put them all in. But that is why we have goalies and goal posts. There can be some luck involved and some breaks. From a coach's perspective, we have to have a better effort tomorrow night. We have to have a better game; our execution has to be better and the team has to play better overall."
Sophomore Defenseman Brandon Burlon
On the effect of not capitalizing on good scoring chances ... "Well, it had an effect because we lost. We were thinking positively on the bench and encouraging each other to get shots. We kept them to 11 shots and we just have to capitalize on our chances when we have them."
Freshman Forward Chris Brown
On his goal ... "I didn't know if the whistle blew or not so I put it in anyway. It was a good power-play shift by my line: Louie [Caporusso] and Carl [Hagelin], and our defensive pairing Chad [Langlais] and [Steve] Kampfer. We just cycled the puck well and Carl put the puck toward the net. We started whacking at it and the ref let the puck go. It was sitting on the goal line and it was an easy one so I tapped it in. It was a big goal and we just have to make sure we capitalize on the power play from here on out.
On emotions in this game ... "I don't know if it was emotional. It's hockey and that is how it will be every night. It will happen. I'm a physical player so it will probably happen every shift. The intensity was high. It was a sold out crowd and they were getting into it so that got our team going. Every night we have to show up and play with intensity. We didn't match their intensity in the first and that's what got us behind. We came out in the second and matched [their intensity]."
