Series Notes
Michigan advances to 9-8-0 against Minnesota in the College Hockey Showcase. The Wolverines extended their winning streak to three over the Golden Gophers for the first time since a six-game winning streak from March 24, 1996, through Nov. 27, 1998.
The Wolverines improve to 19-13-1 in College Hockey Showcase play. Michigan has the most wins (19) and best winning percentage (.591). Michigan and Minnesota entered the night tied for best winning percentage in the CHS.
U-M moves up to 117-127-14 all-time against Minnesota and 2-4-0 at Yost Ice Arena.
Michigan's 6-0 win over the Golden Gophers marked the largest goal differential since Nov. 26, 1993, when the Wolverines bested Minnesota 6-0 in the inaugural year of the College Hockey Showcase.
Team Notables
The three tallies scored in the second period marked the second game in a row that U-M has posted three markers in a single period and the seventh time this season.
The six goals from the Maize and Blue stand as the team's highest goal total at home.
Junior left wing Carl Hagelin recorded Michigan's first shorthanded tally of the season in the second frame. The shorty was the fourth of the Swedish forward's career.
Michigan snapped its four-game home losing streak, which had been its longest since a five-game stretch in 1988-89.
Streaks and Peaks
Junior center Louie Caporusso improved his point streak to three games (2-3-5) with a goal and the helper on David Wohlberg's tally.
With a goal tonight, David Wohlberg extended his point streak to three contests (1-3-4). The sophomore now has posted a point in five of his last six games (2-4-6).
Hagelin matched his career high with the third two-goal game of his career, two of which have come against the Gophers. The Swede now leads the team with seven goals.
Junior defenseman Chad Langlais notched his sixth assist of the year, equaling the team lead alongside Wohlberg. Langlais also leads all defensemen with six points 0-6-6.
Player Notables
Wohlberg's gamewinner marked the fourth of his career and his first this season.
Sophomore defenseman Brandon Burlon recorded his first goal of the season.
Defenseman Steve Kampfer registered his first multi-assist game (2) this season.
Junior left wing Ben Winnett's assist and marker resulted in his second multi-point game of his career.
Special Teams
Michigan's penalty kill ranked sixth in the country with an 89.6-percent success rate entering Friday's game. The Wolverines recorded their eighth perfect game, preventing a strong Minnesota power play from scoring on all seven of its opportunities.
With Burlon and Hagelin's power-play tallies, the Wolverines have recorded a power-play goal in three consecutive games.
