AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team cut the deficit Saturday (Oct.31) but fell to both Texas (235-149) and Indiana (215-174) in the final day of a two-day, double-dual meet at Texas'. With the losses, Michigan is now 3-2 on the season.

Fifth-year senior Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) took home top honors in the 1,650-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:46.17, making her 8-for-9 in race wins this season.

Meanwhile, senior Margaret Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) gave Michigan its second win of the day Saturday when she clocked in first in the 100-yard freestyle.

Michigan will be back in action next weekend (Fri-Sat., Nov. 6-7) when its faces Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

On team's performance Saturday ... "We were running on fumes Friday after getting into Austin around 3:30 in the morning, but we got good rest last night and it showed in performances today. We swam well. There was no complaining, no moaning. We sucked it up and did a great job."

On the impact of many freshmen ... "We graduated some really good people and we are having to rely on the freshmen right away as a result. They are stepping up and doing a great job. Their racing is reflective of their training and they are training exceptionally well. They won't be normal freshmen in terms of performance, but I think they are going to very good for us this year."

On what they can take away from the meet ... "We swam against two teams that sent quite a few people to NCAAs last season. It's always good to see our swimmers perform up to that level and go nose to nose with them. We're not intimidaded by that. They can swim their race and do a great job, and we saw a lot of that particularly today. I think we showed everybody we were better than what we were yesterday."
