PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior/sophomore Kaitlyn Peale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS) of the University of Michigan women's cross country team was named Big Ten Conference Runner of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 27) in recognition of her winning performance at the EMU Fall Classic (Oct. 23).
Peale paced the Wolverines for the second straight meet, earning top individual honors at the EMU meet with a 5,000-meter time of 17:24 -- the second-quickest showing of her U-M career. The effort was Peale's first collegiate cross country victory and fourth top-10 finish in as many appearances this season.
The Wolverines boasted six of the top-10 individual finishers, including four among the top five, at the annual EMU Fall Classic to wrap up the regular season in decisive fashion.
The weekly distinction is the second for the Wolverines this year and the first for Peale during her career Michigan. Junior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) claimed a share of the season's first weekly accolade after winning the kickoff Michigan Open on Sept. 4.
The Maize and Blue will kick off the postseason at the Big Ten Championships next Sunday (Nov. 1) in State College, Pa. The women's 6,000-meter race is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start at the Blue-White Golf Course.
