ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After back-to-back events with runners finishing in all top-four places, the University of Michigan men's cross country team begins the 2008 season ranked eighth in the country and first in the Great Lakes Region in the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I men's cross country poll released Tuesday (Sept. 16). The Wolverines return all but two runners to a squad that won a share of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in three seasons in 2007.
U-M received 260 points in the USTFCCA's first poll of the season and is one of three Big Ten teams in the top 10 including Wisconsin, which is ranked sixth, and Minnesota, which is ranked ninth.
Michigan will look to continue its impressive season as the Wolverines travel to New York, N.Y., to run in the Br. Doyle Meet of Champions. The race is being run at historic Van Cortlandt Park and is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m.
