
Jung Reaches Singles Final, Doubles Semifinals at ITA Event

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Highlighted by singles finalist Jason Jung(Torrance, Calif./West Torrance HS), three members of the University of Michigan men's tennis team competed in the 2008ITANationalSummer Championships, held Monday through Friday (Aug. 11-15) on the campus of Indiana University.
Jung, who will be a sophomore in 2008-09, fell to Virginia's Sanam Singh, 6-2, 6-1, in the singles championship match on Friday. He also teamed withclassmate Chris Madden(Lotus, Calif./Ponderosa HS) for a doubles run that ended in Thursday's semifinals with an 8-1 loss to David Rosenfeld and Daniel Vallverdu of Miami (Fla.).
Jung, seeded third, reached the singles final by defeating Virginia's John Barrick, 7-6, 6-1, in semifinal action Thursday afternoon. Following a first-round bye, Jung defeated Princeton's Alex Krueger-Wyman (6-4, 7-6), North Carolina State teammates Patrick Daciek (7-5, 4-0 ret.) and Derek Stephens (7-6, 6-1), and Indiana's Lachlan Ferguson (7-6, 6-2) en route to the semifinals.
Jung and Madden cruised into the semifinal round with three convincing victories following a first-round bye, defeating DePauw's Garrett Nickell and Michael Rardon (8-0), Indiana's Lachlan Ferguson and Jeremy Langer (8-3) and Ball State's Jose Perdomo and Jorge Rodriguez (8-4).
Madden and sophomore-to-be David Streeter(Beverley Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS) also participated in the singles competition. Madden used a first-round bye and a 6-1, 6-4 win over Indiana's Will Kendall to reach thethird round, where he lost to eventual champion Singh, 6-2, 6-2. Streeter fell in the first round to Duke's Aaron Carpenter, 6-3, 6-1.
The singles and doubles champions from the ITA National Summer Championships earned wild cards into the first national tournaments of the 2008-09 collegiate tennis season -- the D'Novo Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships held in October.
 
 The ITA National Summer Championships presented by the USTA are the conclusion of the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, which is played at 26 regional sites throughout the country in July.
