
U-M Quartet Attains ACWPC All-Academic Laurel

DENVER, Colo. -- Four members of the University of Michigan women's water polo team were recognized recently for their work in the classroom with Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Awards. The Wolverines as a team also received acknowledgement for its performance in the classroom with an academic team award. Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.2 to 3.4 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.7 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding).
Junior Carrie Stover(Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) earned the pinnacle honor, scoring in the outstanding category. The laurel is her third nod from the coaches association during her career. Senior Michelle Keeley(Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and freshman Alison Mantel(Miami, Fla./Gulliver) were both tabbed with superior honors. Keeley earned academic recognition in each of her three seasons at Michigan. Freshman Cara Reitz(Miami, Fla./Gulliver) concluded the group of U-M individual honorees, fitting into the excellent category.
Michigan advanced to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championship on the strength of a school record 34 winsthis past season. The Wolverines finished tenth in the national rankings after claiming both the CWPA Western Division Championship and CWPA Eastern Championship.
