Postgame Notes: Michigan 29, Minnesota 6

• Michigan retained possession of the Little Brown Jug, the nation's oldest trophy game, for the third straight season and will keep the trophy until the two schools renew the rivalry in 2011.
• The Wolverines won their 14th straight game against the Gophers in Minneapolis, with their last loss coming during the 1977 season (16-0 at Memorial Stadium).
• Michigan won its 70th game all-time in the series (70-24-3). The 70 victories against the Gophers are the most for the Wolverines against any opponent.
• U-M played its final game at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, compiling a 12-0 record in the 27 seasons that Minnesota has played games at dome (1982-2008). The Gophers open TCF Bank Stadium next season.
• The 29-6 victory at Minnesota ended a five-game losing streak for the Wolverines.
• Michigan's defense held the opposition without an offensive touchdown for the third time this season (Miami, Toledo and Minnesota).
• The Wolverines set season highs in total offensive plays (72) and yards (435) at Minnesota. U-M rushed 42 times for a season-best 232 yards and added 203 passing yards in the contest.
• Senior kicker K.C. Lopata matched a school record and set a career high with five field goals at Minnesota. He tied the five field-goal games attained by Mike Gillette (Minnesota, Nov. 5, 1988) and J.D. Carlson (Illinois, Nov. 10, 1990).
• Lopata had a pair of first-quarter field goals (44 and 34), added a 26-yarder in the second stanza and converted two field goals in the third quarter (48 and 23). They were his first attempts since converting a 27-yarder at Penn State on Oct. 18.
• Junior/sophomore quarterback Nick Sheridan made his second start of the season and first career on the road, subbing for an injured Steven Threet. Sheridan started the opener against Utah. Threet did not dress for the game but was on the sidelines on a headset throughout the contest.
• Sheridan set career highs in every passing category at Minnesota, completing 18-of-30 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown.
• Sheridan completed 11-of-21 passes for 130 yards and one TD in the first half. He was three-of-seven for 47 yards on third down, including the eight-yard touchdown pass to Greg Mathews. Sheridan also had a two-yard run to convert a fourth down.
• Freshman tailback Michael Shaw led the Wolverines in rushing with a career-best 71 yards on eight carries against the Gophers. He made his first career start in a two-tailback set with Brandon Minor.
• Shaw had a 49-yard run in the third quarter that led to U-M's fifth field goal of the game. It was the second longest running play of the season for the Wolverines.
• Junior wide receiver Greg Mathews set his career high with 79 receiving yards on six catches at Minnesota. Mathews caught three passes for 39 yards and an eight-yard touchdown reception in the first half. His TD catch at 1:49 of the second quarter was his second receiving TD of the season and the fifth of his career.
• Junior tailback Brandon Minor finished with 53 rushing yards on 14 carries at Minnesota. Minor had 12 carries for 52 yards in the first half, including a 40-yard run that lists as the fourth-longest run of the season for the Wolverines.
• Freshman wide receiver Martavious Odoms became the most prolific freshman receiver in school history with his seven catches for 43 yards at Minnesota. Odoms surpassed the mark of 38 catches set previously by Steve Breaston in 2003 with five catches for 25 yards in the first half. Odoms has 43 receptions for 398 yards this season.
• Junior/sophomore Mark Moundros scored his first career rushing touchdown on a three-yard run with 34 seconds remaining in the contest.
• Senior safety Brandon Harrison picked up his first career solo sack on a third-and-goal play from the five-yard line for the Gophers. The play forced a field goal at 7:27 of the third quarter. Harrison's only other sack was an assisted one against Notre Dame in 2007. He also contributed five tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack.
• Junior/sophomore linebacker Obi Ezeh and sophomore cornerback Donovan Warren both made their 20th career starts defensively in the game. Ezeh led the team with seven tackles and picked up his first sack of the season in the second quarter.
• Fifth-year senior cornerback Morgan Trent picked his team-leading third interception of the season on a diving play at 7:19 of the fourth quarter. It was his first interception of the conference season and was the first for the Wolverines since John Thompson's interception and 25-yard return for a touchdown against Wisconsin.
• The Wolverines outgained the Gophers at half, 257 to 46. Michigan ran 44 offensive plays compared to 23 for Minnesota and controlled the clock by a 17:58 to 12:02 margin.
• Michigan outgained Minnesota by a 115 to 25 margin in the first quarter en route to a 6-0 lead. The Wolverines ran 23 plays with all three ending inside the Gophers 30-yard line and Minnesota was limited to 10 plays for 25 yards. U-M's productive opening stanza netted 9:36 in time of possession.
• The Wolverines gained 73 yards rushing compared to 15 for the Gophers and had 42 passing yards compared to 10 for Minnesota in the first quarter.
• Michigan had five of its six possessions in the first half end in Minnesota territory.
• The U-M defense forced five straight three-and-outs by the Gophers to start the game and six out of seven in the first half.
• Michigan's defense held Minnesota without a first down until the 8:11 mark of the second quarter when Jack Simmons caught an 11-yard pass from Adam Weber on the first play of the series.
• The Wolverines had 11 first downs in the first half compared to one for the Gophers.
• Freshman Justin Feagin made his career quarterbacking debut at 11:01 of the second quarter. He had a four-yard run to start the drive which was his only play of the Wolverines' third field-goal drive.
• A series later, Feagin had a 34-yard run to convert a third-and-three play and added two more runs (1 and 5 yards). He rushed three times for 40 yards on the Wolverines' touchdown drive at the end of the first half.
• Junior/sophomore wide receiver Ricky Reyes made his career debut on the punt-return team.
• Today's game captains for the Wolverines were kicker Jason Gingell, defensive end Tim Jamison, nose tackle Terrance Taylor and cornerback Morgan Trent.
