Aprill Named Big Ten Runner of the Week

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Freshman Bobby Aprill(Dexter, Mich./Dexter) of the University of Michigan men's cross country team was named Big Ten Conference Runner of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 28) following his sixth-place finish in the 10,000-meter EMU Fall Classic this past Friday (Oct. 24) at the Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. The award is his first career weekly conference honor.
Aprill set a new personal-best time of 31:32 in the 10,000 meters, beating his old top mark, which was set in August on the same course at the Michigan Open, by 44 seconds. No team scores were calculated, however, the Wolverines placed two runners in the top 10.
This is the third time this season that a U-M runner has earned Big Ten Runner of the Week honors. Senior Lex Williams(Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) earned the honor on Sept. 2 and junior/Sophomore Ciaran O'Lionaird(Cork, Ireland/De La Salle) was recognized on Sept. 16.
The Maize and Blue will host the Big Ten Championships this Sunday (Nov. 2). The 8,000-meter event is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. after the conclusion of the women's race, which begins at 10:45 a.m.
