TOLDEO, Ohio. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team earned its first win of the season with a 167-126 victory over Toledo on Friday night (Oct. 24) at the UT Rec Center. Junior Margaret Kelly(Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and freshmen Caitlin Dauw(St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Amanda Lohman(Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) each won two individual events for the Wolverines.
Michigan got off to a good start with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as the foursome of senior Payton Johnson(Champaign, Ill./Centennial), freshman Liz Koselka(Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Dauw and sophomore Natasha Moodie(Miramar, Fla./Miramar) came from behind over the final 100 yards to claim first in 1:45.25. Two races later, Kelly picked up her first win of the evening in the 200-yard freestyle as she jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it, touching the wall in 1:50.07 -- over two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Toledo. Kelly followed her win in the 200 free with a similarly impressive win in the 500-yard freestyle later in the evening, where she finished in 4:55.44 -- a full second ahead of the next closest racer.
Junior Leigh Cole(Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) continued to extend Michigan's lead with a win in the 100-yard backstroke. Cole touched the wall in 58.23 to pick up her first win of the year. Sophomore Morgan Rosentreter(Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and Dauw both won to extend the Wolverines' winning streak to four straight races as Rosentreter touched the wall in 1:05.40 in the 100-yard breaststroke -- a new personal record -- and Dauw picked up the first win of her collegiate career with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly. She finished her sweep of the butterfly events later in the evening when she touched the wall in 56.13 to win the 100-yard butterfly.
Senior Noelle Martin(Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) picked up the Wolverines' fifth straight victory in the next event with a win in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 23.90 was the fastest by any Maize and Blue swimmer in the event this season. In her first meet of the season, sophomore Natasha Moodie(Miramar, Fla./Miramar) picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.07, a new personal record for the Florida native to make it six straight.
