Softball Field Construction Photos and Updates

Follow construction at the Wilpon Baseball and Softball Complex with photos and updates. Seating capacity at Alumni Field will be doubled with construction of a new 1,800-seat grandstand and 1,350-seat outfield bleachers for a total capacity of 3,150. New public restrooms, concessions areas and a media facility will be included in the addition. The Donald R. Shepherd Softball Building will be expanded to allow for additional team meeting and athletic training areas.

6/11/07 :: Batting Cages The first portion of the stadium renovation to be constructed was the batting cages down the leftfield line. | 6/16/07 :: Batting Cages Completed The leftfield batting cages were completed June 16. Three cages stand 16 feet in height, 14 feet in width and 57 feet long, and are surfaced with FieldTurf. | |
6/16/07 :: First Base Line The first base line will be home to the indoor hitting building, press box, restrooms, retail/concessions area, stadium seating and home dugout. | 9/5/07 :: Indoor Hitting Building The frame of the indoor hitting building, located along the pedestrian walkway, was constructed during the first week of September. The framework is the first portion of the stadium project erected on the first base line. | |
9/17/07 :: All-American Room Expansion The Donald R. Shepherd Softball Building is undergoing a renovation with the All-American and training rooms being expanded for more practical use. The locker room facility renovation will be completed in December. | 9/17/07 :: Training Room Expansion The training room will include three treatment tables, a taping table, a whirlpool, ice machine and additional space to service the student-athletes. | |
9/17/07 :: First Base Line The metamorphosis of the first base line continues to take place, as the foundation for the press box, restroom, and retail areas is laid. | 9/17/07 :: Hitting Building Side View The roof and masonary work on the hitting building is being completed. The west view shown will be one of the pedestrian pathways to the stadium seating. |
