Dore, Schaetzel Earn GCAA All-America Scholar Awards

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior-to-be Tim Schaetzel (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) and graduated senior Kevin Dore (Dundas, Ontario/St. Mary's Secondary Catholic School) of the University of Michigan men's golf team were named to the 2007 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Division I, announced Monday (July 16) by the by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Dore, who graduated with a degree in sports management, earned Academic All-Big Ten and U-M Athletic Academic Achievement honors in his final season. During his senior season, Dore played in all 11 tournaments and averaged 75.91 strokes per round. Dore, who was the Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree for the Wolverines, led U-M in two events and set career-bests for single round tally as well as 36-, 54- and 72-hole tournament scores.
Schaetzel, who is pursuing a degree in industrial and operational engineering, also earned Academic All-Big Ten and U-M Athletic Academic Achievement honors this season. He started all 11 tournaments, averaged a career-best 74.81 strokes per round and finished as the top Wolverine in six tournaments. He set career-bests for 36-hole and 72-hole tournaments and posted a season best round tally of 68 in the Nike Purdue Kiahuna Collegiate Invitational (Nov. 22-23).
The duo becomes the eighth and ninth Wolverines in history to earn the prestigious distinction, joining: Michael Affeldt (1998-99 and 1999-2000), Anthony Dietz (1991-92 and 1992-93), Michael Harris (1997-98, 1998-99 and 1999-2000), Bob Henighan (1991-92), Isaac Hinkle (1996-97), Dave Nichols (2002-03) and Kevin Vernick (1997-98).
In order to eligible for the Division I scholar award, juniors and seniors must carry a minimum of a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, while also averaging under a 76.0 stroke average.
