Tracking the Wolverines at NCAAs: Tuesday

After making the adjustment to the time change and weather on day one, the Wolverines got the day rolling at 7:15 a.m. PDT. Following a wonderful breakfast buffet, which consisted of fresh fruit and special made omelets (provided by the Courtyard Marriott), the girls had the energy to have a 9:30 a.m. practice.
The focus of practice was to get some quick positive things done. Bettie Wade was able to work on the hurdles, long jump and high jump. In the hurdles, Tiffany Ofili was able to work with the bullet belts (a harness that is used to work on power). "The workouts were positive, really short, relaxed and full of intensity," said Coach James Henry. Coach Mike McGuire's crew got in another three to five mile workout. Nicole Edwards did five 200-meter runs since she will not compete until Thursday.
Today's lunch consisted of Baja Fresh (fresh burritos and tacos) for one group of the girls; the other group went shopping. Some of the girls took the opportunity to shop for their secret buddy, while others bought clothes for themselves (Edwards) or fingernail polish (Ofili) for the competition. The secret buddy is someone each girl picks randomly to give motivation and encouragement throughout the week. Each girl picks a name out of a hat and can spend no more than five dollars on her secret buddy. The objective is to motivate your secret buddy and reveal yourself at the end of the week. Inspiration is normally in the form of door decorating and nice notes for the day.
To cap off the evening, coach McGuire represented the Maize and Blue at the ACCUSPLIT/Nike Coaches' Party, while coach Henry took Bettie Wade and Tiffany Ofili to Outback Steakhouse (where they waited for about an hour to get their food). The distance corps ate dinner at Biba, an Italian restaurant, where Edwards ordered a pasta dish that she was unable to pronounce. Henry set the curfew for the evening at 10 p.m. PDT, so the team could get an early jump and get two meals in before the first day of competition. After receiving a much needed massage, Edwards anticipated hitting the sack at around 9:30 p.m. ... even though she didn't get a chance to study for Physics yet.
