ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team posted an impressive 103-87 victory over Oakland University Wednesday night (Dec. 12) in Crisler Arena. Led by five players who scored in double figures, the Wolverines combated the Grizzlies' hot start in which Oakland connected on six of its first seven shots. Michigan connected on 34-of-59 shots from the field in comparison to the Grizzlies' 32-for-76 shooting.

Manny Harris
Freshman Manny Harris (Detroit, Mich./Redford HS) netted a team-high 24 points on 7-for-16 shooting and a perfect eight-for-eight from the foul line. He also added eight rebounds. Sophomore DeShawn Sims (Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) tallied 22 points on 8-for-14 from the field, and Jevohn Shepherd (Toronto, Ontario/West Hills Collegiate) finished with a career-high 10 points.
Following five minutes of hot shooting by both teams, Michigan took its first lead of the ballgame, 19-18, on a four-point play by sophomore K'Len Morris (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS), who connected on a long distance trey from the wing before knocking down the following free throw en route to a career-high nine points for the evening. The Wolverines' lead increased to 32-25 at 8:11 on a mid-range bucket by Sims. Between the baskets by Morris and Sims, Michigan spread the ball, as four other Wolverines collected points.
Sims continued his hot play later in the first half, connecting on an old-fashioned three-point play to give U-M its largest lead of the first half, 44-27, with just over five minutes remaining in the half. He finished with a team-high 13 points on five-of-eight shooting, as the Wolverines took a 55-42 lead into the locker room.
Oakland jumped out on a 7-2 run to begin the second half, but a pair of buckets by Sims quickly halted any Grizzlies comeback effort. Pairing with Sims' inside game was Harris, who netted 17 second-half points, 10 of which came in the game's final 10 minutes. Michigan's largest lead of the game, 85-64, came on a free throw from senior Ron Coleman (Romulus, Mich./Romulus HS) at 8:13. Coleman finished with 13 points, including a perfect two-for-two from beyond the arc.
The win marks the first times since 1998 (Feb. 22 against Indiana) that the Wolverines scored over 100 points.
Michigan will hit the hardwood for the second game this week Saturday (Dec. 15) against Central Michigan in Crisler Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. with game broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
