Michigan Stays Unbeaten with Downing of Brown

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team won its second game of the season, a 72-57 victory over Brown Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11) in Crisler Arena. The first half marked an offensive explosion, as the Wolverines opened with a 12-2 run in the game's first five minutes, shooting a perfect four-of-four from the field, including three-point baskets from senior Ron Coleman(Romulus, Mich./Romulus HS) and freshmen Kelvin Grady(Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS). Sophomore DeShawn Sims(Detroit, Mich./Detroit Pershing HS) took control in the second half, accounting for 14 of Michigan's 35 second-half points.
The Wolverines shot a blistering 9-of-15 from beyond the arc in the first half. Freshman Anthony Wright(Sterling, Va./Oak Hill Academy) tallied three triples in the first 20-minutes of action, including a deep three-pointer from the left wing as time expired to give the Wolverines a 37-21 halftime lead. Freshmen Manny Harris(Detroit, Mich./Redford HS) and Grady each added a pair of three-pointers. Harris led all scorers with 14 points on four-of-five shooting in the first half. His second trey of the afternoon at 11:54 stretched the U-M advantage to 24-13. Harris added a midrange bucket with just under four minutes before the half, extending Michigan's lead to 31-17 before the break.
Michigan's hot outside shooting continued into the second half as Sims added a pair of three pointers en route to a 51-32 advantage. Sims flashed an all-around game, finishing the game with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including three three-pointers and three second half dunks. Harris followed Sims' second triple of the half with a three-pointer of his own and a midrange bucket to extend the U-M lead to 56-34, which was the Wolverines' largest lead of the afternoon. Harris finished with a game-high 22 points on six-of-eight shooting, including three-of-four beyond the arc and seven-of-nine from the foul line.
The Wolverines will now take to the road, traveling to Washington, D.C., to face Georgetown on Thursday (Nov. 15). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN360.
