ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team opened its 2007-08 season Thursday (Nov. 1) with a 78-40 exhibition win over Ferris State in Crisler Arena. Led by 15 points from freshman Manny Harris (Detroit, Mich./Redford HS), the Wolverines used six first-half three-pointers to build an insurmountable 19-point lead at the break. Sophomore DeShawn Sims (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Pershing HS) added 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting. Sims also added a pair of rebounds, one block and two steals to lead a U-M defense that held the Bulldogs to 15-for-57 shooting from the field, including 1-for-18 from beyond the three point line.

Senior Ron Coleman's (Romulus, Mich./Romulus HS) added 11 points, one assist and one rebound, as Michigan shot 47-percent from the field to lead, 37-18, at the half. Michigan was explosive behind the arc, connecting on six three-pointers to build a 23-point advantage midway through the first. As hot as the Wolverines were from downtown, the Bulldogs were just as cold, as a stifling Michigan defense held Ferris State to 7-for-25 from the field in the first 20 minutes of action.
Another notable first-half performance came from Harris who created shots -- for himself and others -- all night en route to a sparkling Michigan debut.
The second half opened with a pair of U-M triples from Sims and sophomore K'Len Morris (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS). Morris ended the game with seven points and five rebounds. Harris, who showed excellent burst to the hole throughout the game, scored three points the old-fashioned way at 14:43 in the second half to extend the Michigan lead to 50-22. Harris ballooned the Wolverine advantage to 61-30 later in the half on a fast break slam. Hot from downtown all night, U-M finished the evening with 10 triples.
With the exhibition season now completed, the Wolverines will host "Fan Night" Friday (Nov. 2) in Crisler Arena. The event is free to the public with the gates opening to Crisler Arena at 6:30 p.m. Following team introductions of the men's and women's programs, the U-M players and coaches will be available for autographs.
The Wolverines will open the 2007-08 season with a home game against Radford Friday (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
