Wolverines' Fall Schedule Includes Pair of Tournaments

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball program's fall practice schedule will conclude with two tournaments. The Maize and Blue will participate in the 11th annual Elk Rapids Collegiate Softball Tournament (Sept. 23-24) in Elk Rapids, Mich., and take a trip to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Worth Fall Classic (Oct. 13-15).
The four-team field at Elk Rapids consists of Michigan, Michigan State, Western Michigan and Central Michigan, with all four teams facing one another in a round-robin format on Sept. 23. The first-place team from the round-robin action faces the fourth-place team, while the second- and third-place squads square off in semifinal action on Sept. 24. Championship and consolation games immediately follow the semifinals.
The Wolverines will round out fall competition at the Worth Fall Classic three weeks later, facing Western Michigan, Illinois-Chicago and NCAA Tournament participants Nebraska and Notre Dame.
The fall tournament slate provides Michigan softball fans their first opportunity to view the 2007 Wolverine lineup, including freshmen Molly Bausher (Las Vegas, Nev./Spring Valley HS), Angela Findlay (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township HS), Nicole Nemitz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Regina HS), Roya St. Clair (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) and Maggie Viefhaus (Pacific, Mo./Eureka HS). The five-person freshman class joins a group of U-M veterans coming off a 2006 season in which they captured the Big Ten Tournament championship for the second consecutive year and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional.
Among the returning Wolverines are 2006 Great Lakes All-Region first team selection Alessandra Giampaolo (Pasadena, Calif./Polytechnic) as well as 2006 All-Big Ten performers Samantha Findlay (Lockport, Ill./Lockport HS) and Rebekah Milian (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS).
