Fellows Takes First as U-M Dominates Michigan Open

DEXTER, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's cross country sophomore/freshman Brandon Fellows (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) led all runners with a first-place finish at the Michigan Open on Friday (Sept. 1) at Hudson Mills Metropark. Fellows completed the 10,000 meter course in 32:14.
The rest of the Wolverines were not far behind as redshirt freshman Sean McNamara (Elmhurst, Ill./York) took second place with a time of 32:18. Coming in third was junior Seth Thibodeau (Milford, Mich./Milford) with a mark of 32:20. Sophomore Lex Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) placed fifth. Coming in sixth place was senior/junior James Reichardt (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) with a time of 32:57. Fifth-year senior Andrew Bauer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) took 12th (33:29), followed by redshirt freshman Roger Billhardt (Elmhurst, Ill./York), who took 18th place (34:10). Rounding out the Michigan runners was junior/sophomore Mark Pokora (Pickerington, Ohio/Central), placing 26th (no time).
Several Wolverine runners also competed unattached. Sophomore John Black (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) and freshman Ciaran O'Lionaird (Cork, Ireland/De La Salle) finished fourth (32:20) and seventh (33:03), respectively. Sophomore Tony Nalli (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) placed 13th with a time of 33:37. Freshman Mike Dobmeier (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) came in 16th (34:00) followed by sophomore Justin Switzer (Waterford, Mich./Kettering) in 17th (34:08). Freshman Peter Christmas (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished 27th overall with a time of 34:53.
The Wolverines will have a two-week hiatus before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Hosted by Michigan State, the non-scoring event is slated to begin at 3 p.m. at Forest Akers East Golf Course.
