Team, Players Collect CWPA All-Academic Distinction

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association announced the 2005-2006 Women's All-Academic team Friday (June 16), rewarding the University of Michigan women's water polo team and 11 players on the team for academic accomplishments this past season. The CWPA awards a team for earning a 2.75 or higher team GPA and awards an individual athlete for earning a 3.20 GPA or higher. Michigan finished the academic year tied with three other universities for the fifth-highest team GPA among Division I programs.
Kate Bizer (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Wesley Ellison (Portola Valley, Calif./Palo Alto), Kristin Hoogenboom (Portland, Ore./Lincoln), Michelle Keeley (Rockford, Mich./Rockford), and Carrie Stover (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) all earned superior all-academic honors for a GPA of 3.41 to 3.70, while Kelly Clark (Monte Sereno, Calif./Saratoga), Megan Hausmann (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's), Lindsey Hitchcock (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Haley Mullins (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte), Sally Stone (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's), and Carly Strub (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) each earned excellent all-academic certificates for a GPA of 3.20 to 3.40. Hoogenboom, Hitchcock, Strub and Hausmann all graduated in 2006.
Michigan finished the season 29-12 and advanced to the Eastern Championship final. The Wolverines set a number of program records, including game records in shots (41, twice) and steals (25, twice), and season records in goals (399), assists (301) and points (700).
