Q U O T E S
Michigan coach Andrew Sapp
On the weekend in Purdue ... "For us, it is one of those same songs, different weekend things. We need more consistency throughout everyone. We need to quit throwing in the 79s and 81s. That is what hurt us yesterday and even today, counting a couple of 76s, if they were 74s we would have been in just that much better shape. But Tim (Schaetzel) was able to put three good rounds together for us. Everyone else had at least one solid round. It's getting better. Hopefully with another full week of practice and in our preparations for Ohio State, we can continue to get better and we can continue to build more and more momentum as we approach Big Tens."
On where do the Wolverines go from here ... "Next weekend is another chance for us to prove that we can contend for a Big Ten title. It is one of those opportunities to beat some other Big Ten teams, obviously we beat Minnesota this week and they are one of the top teams in the Big Ten. We just need to get out there this week and get more and more rounds under our belts. Get some good practice in and shooting some better scores. So, that is the plan for the next few weeks. We spent a lot of time hitting balls over the winter, now it is time to get out there and get some scores on some scorecards and start playing well in rounds to build our confidence."
Sophomore Tim Schaetzel
On his weekend ... "It was nice to have three rounds where I felt I was actually in the game for a little bit. Yesterday I felt I played very well, especially considering the conditions. I played very smart. I kept the ball in the fairway, I got it near the green and I did a good job making by short putts. I didn't waste many shots. Today, I drove the ball okay and hit some good iron shots, but I just couldn't get putts to go down. I put myself in some pretty tough spots to get up and down and when I had a good pitch shot, I just couldn't covert the par. Overall, I just thought I played better than my score reflects."
On the team's mindset ... "We have continued to work hard over the last few weeks. After starting slow to start the spring, we have really had the opportunity to work on our game. We had some good qualifiers and to get out there and hit balls and chip and putt is starting to make a difference. So, this week we were a lot more tournament ready than we have been earlier. This spring has kind of been about someone hitting one errant shot and recording a triple (bogey) instead of converting a par. So we have had to count higher scores. Overall, we would like to improve and continue to get better so that if we have to take a higher score, we are still in the game. Right now we have some players, including myself, making that one mistake that has cost us."
