Out of the Water with Kate Bizer

In limited playing time this season, first-year player Kate Bizer has shown the talent that allowed her to transfer from the club water polo program at Michigan State to the perennially ranked program at Michigan.
In 15 games played this season, Bizer has scored five times and handed out three assists. As a result, head coach Matt Anderson sees her as a possible weapon later in her career. Despite being in her sophomore year, Bizer has freshman eligibility which means she can improve for three more years as well as continue to play in her native Ann Arbor.
Bizer, who enjoys going to Red Hot's and Pizza House, took some time to discuss her first season as a Wolverine.
On why she came to Michigan
"I am from Ann Arbor and I have always wanted to go to U of M. I applied here after my freshman year at Michigan State and got in. I am really happy that I am able to come here and play water polo."
On playing against Michigan State earlier this season
"It was interesting. It was a little weird playing against all of my old teammates, but it was fun and a good experience."
On the meaning of being a native of Ann Arbor and playing water polo at U-M
"I enjoy being able to wear Maize and Blue and it means a lot."
On her best memories so far as a Wolverine women's water polo player
"I have enjoyed all of my classes so far. I have had some good professors and I have liked that. I really like all of my teammates, which is good. I am glad I am here."
On her pregame superstition
"I don't really have anything specific that I do. Sometimes I listen to music to get in the zone or get focused, but I don't have anything that important that I always need to do."
COACH MATT ANDERSON'S TAKE:
"Kate wanted to come here out of high school and got deferred so she went to Michigan State and played on the club team there. She then realized she wanted to try to play varsity water polo and come to Michigan, which she has always wanted to do, so she transferred. Last year at Michigan State was basically like a redshirt year where she got continue to play, but now she is back playing at a higher level. As player, she's strong and can shoot the ball. The more that she picks up on the game, the more she's going to be beneficial in future years."
