Julie Hyrne (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) opened the scoring one minute in on a backhand shot out of the hole set. Megan Hausmann (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's) then sank a lob shot into the cage and Shana Welch (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming West Valley) followed with a breakaway marker to put the Wolverines up 3-0 at the end of the first period.
Kaitlin Prijatel (North Tustin, Calif./Foothill) took a pass from Mary Chatigny (Palm Springs, Calif./Palm Springs) and snuck home a shot to begin the second. After two MSU goals, a Kelsey Haley (Portola Valley, Calif./Menlo) score sparked a five-goal run to end the half and U-M led 9-2 heading into the third frame. The run included Hausmann's second and third goals as she earned the hat trick. Carly Strub (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Welch netted the other two scores.
Wesley Ellison (Portola Valley, Calif./Palo Alto) gave the Wolverines a 10-2 advantage 15 seconds into the second half when she scored out of two meters. Prijatel answered the Spartans' third goal of the game with her second of the night to put U-M up 11-3. Michigan State driver Katie Clarin netted her third and fourth goals to end the scoring and the Maize and Blue held the 11-5 advantage as the final buzzer sounded.
Michigan next travels to Indiana's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind., for the Western Division Championship (April 22-23).

Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Matt Anderson
On tonight's match ... "My core group of players did a nice job out there. There was that stretch in the second period when I went with the core group of four with a couple of others and they went five-for-five on their shooting. No one got extended time and everybody got to play in their final regular-season game here and for the four seniors' final game at Canham. Also, it was good for a lot of the other girls who haven't played that much this season. From who I wanted to see some things out of, there were some good things. There are some things that I think we could do better, but when you are playing an exhibition game, you can only hope that you can sustain the intensity for so long. We also wanted to play this game to help Michigan State toward a club national championship. If anyone is going to win that championship, we want it to be a team from Michigan."
On the postseason road ahead ... "We have six games and we've got to come ready to play all of them. There is no second season from here on out. We've been working all year and hopefully we will continue to put together good games, and if we do we can build from there."
