LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Junior Lorilyn Wilson (Salem, Ore./Sprague) followed her near-perfect game against No. 20 Louisville with a complete-game shutout of Toledo, striking out a season-best 11 batters and giving up just five hits in a 10-0, six-inning win Sunday (March 26) at Ulmer Stadium in U-M's final game of the Louisville Classic.
Sophomore Alessandra Giampaolo (Pasadena, Calif./Polytechnic) provided all the offense the Wolverines would need with a two-run triple in the three-run fifth inning, and U-M added seven runs in the sixth to end the game after six. Sophomore Samantha Findlay (Lockport, Ill./Lockport East) added a pair of RBI, and senior Becky Marx (St. Joseph, Mich./Lakeshore) went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a three-run homer in the seventh.
Wilson extended her scoreless streak to 18.1 innings and improved to 6-4 on the season, with wins in her last three starts.
Senior Rebekah Milian (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) and senior Tiffany Haas (North Tustin, Calif/Foothill) singled in the fifth, setting up Giampaolo's triple that made it 2-0. Two batters later, Marx took a two-out double down the leftfield line, scoring Giampaolo and giving the Wolverines a 3-0 edge.
In the sixth, sophomore Angie Danis (Manchester, Mo./Parkway West) reached on a fielder's choice and Milian doubled to center, putting runners on the corner with one out. Freshman Teddi Ewing (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) singled to the outfield, scoring a pair of runs to make it 5-0, and Haas and Giampaolo walked behind her to load the bases. Findlay singled to score Ewing and Haas, and Marx laced a three-run homer to center, her seventh of the season, making it 10-0. Pinch-hitters sophomore Lauren Talbot (Walled Lake, Mich./Western) and junior Stephanie Winter (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) walked in consecutive at-bats and Milian singled to load the bases, but the scoring onslaught ended with a groundout.
Michigan begins the second half of the regular season with its home opener on Tuesday (March 28, 4 p.m.) vs. Bowling Green. The Big Ten Conference slate starts Sunday (April 2, noon) with a home doubleheader against Minnesota.
