FULLERTON, Calif. -- The University of Michigan softball team suffered its fourth loss in its six-game California road trip and was knocked out of the Judi Garman Classic with a 3-2 eight-inning loss to Utah on Sunday (March 19).
Utah built a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning, but the Wolverines clawed back with a run in the third and one in the sixth to send the game into extra frames. With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, Utah scratched a run across the plate in the eighth for the victory.
Senior Rebekah Milian (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) went 2-for-2 at the plate, while senior Jennie Ritter (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) was tagged with the loss after pitching the final two innings, striking out four. Utah hurler Karina Cannon picked up the win, pitching a complete-game eight-hitter and striking out three batters. Devina Quintero led the Ute bats with two of the team's five hits, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Michigan resumes play in its final regular-season tournament at the Louisville Classic, taking on Eastern Michigan on Friday (March 24) at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of Louisville.
