COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Heavy rains in the Columbus area forced the cancellation of Sunday's (Feb. 26) games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, prematurely ending the University of Michigan softball team's action at the tournament for the second year in a row.
More than two inches of rain fell in Columbus on Saturday, making playing conditions at the South Commons Stadium and Complex unplayable. Michigan (4-3) wraps up the tournament with a 1-1 record, with a 3-2 extra-innings loss to No. 7 Alabama and a 5-3 win over Hofstra.
Michigan has added a 4 p.m. doubleheader at No. 13 Georgia on Monday (Feb. 27) in Athens, Ga., before continuing on to compete in its three previously scheduled midweek Spring Break games.
U-M plays a pair on Tuesday (Feb. 28) vs. Troy at 4 p.m. and vs. No. 17 Auburn at 7 p.m. in Auburn, Ala., and Thursday (March 2) vs. Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. The Wolveirnes will then compete in the Sunshine State Tournament in Tallahassee, facing Maryland and Florida State (March 3) and Western Michigan (March 4) before advancing to bracket play.
