ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis program and the Varsity Tennis Center will host the 2006 Big Ten Conference Singles Championship this Friday through Monday (Nov. 10-13).
The first and second rounds of the 32-player qualifying draw will be played on Friday (Nov. 10), beginning at 9 a.m. The eight players still standing qualify for the main draw. There will be an additional match for first-round losers.
The first and second rounds of the 64-player main draw are scheduled to begin Saturday (Nov. 11, 8 a.m.). The third round and quarterfinals will be played on Sunday (Nov. 12, 10 a.m.), and the tournament will wrap up with the semifinals and championship match on Monday (Nov. 13, 9 a.m.). There will be a consolation bracket for first-round losers.
The Varsity Tennis Center will debut its brand new point-by-point live scoring system for each main draw match. Log on to MGoBlue.com for live scoring, in addition to updated results and draws at the conclusion of each day.
Competing in the main draw for host Michigan will be seniors Ryan Heller (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North HS) and Brian Hung (Hong Kong, China/Sagemont Virtual School), junior Matko Maravic (Zagreb, Croatia/V. Gimnazija) and sophomores Peter Aarts (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane HS) and Andrew Mazlin (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS).
U-M will also enter four players in the qualifying draw: Sophomore Mike DePietro (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS) and freshmen George Navas (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory School), Matt Parks (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) and Mike Sroczynski (Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs School).

The Michigan men's tennis program has produced 20 Big Ten singles champions in its 114-year history.
