Carr Named Eddie Robinson Award Finalist

DALLAS, Texas -- The Football Writers Association of America announced today (Nov. 28) that University of Michigan Head Coach Lloyd Carr has been named one of nine finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award. The annual award is presented to the nations top head coach by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The last Michigan head coach to win the Eddie Robinson Award was Bo Schembechler in 1969.
Carr has led the Wolverines to an 11-1 overall record and 7-1 Big Ten Conference mark in 2006. Michigan began the season ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press poll. The Wolverines shot to the No. 2 ranking in every major poll for a six-week stretch during the later half of the season, and currently ranks third in every major poll and the Bowl Championship Series standings. U-M touts the nation's top-rated rushing defense and sixth-best total defense in the country. The Wolverines rushing attack is rated 11th in the nation.
Other finalists for the award are: Art Briles (Houston), Jim Grobe (Wake Forest), June Jones (Hawaii), Bronco Mendenhall (BYU), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Houston Nutt (Arkansas), Chris Petersen (Boise State) and Greg Schiano (Rutgers).
The winner of the 2006 Eddie Robinson Award will be announced by the FWAA on Jan. 5, 2007, in Glendale, Ariz.
