Wolverines to Hold Intrasquad Meet Saturday Morning

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team will compete in its annual intrasquad meet Saturday morning (Oct. 7) at 10 a.m. at Canham Natatorium. The event is scheduled for 10 swimming events (two relay and eight individual).
Team Maize's roster, captained by senior All-American Susan Gilliam (Los Angeles, Calif./Bolles, Fla.), features freshmen Margaret Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Emily Christy (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford Area Senior), Leigh Cole (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Claire Tyler (Rochester, Mich./Adams) and Keenan Koss (Southport, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe). The Maize team also includes sophomore and NCAA qualifier Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) and senior All-American Lindsey Smith (Dexter, Mich./Dexter). Transfer senior Melissa Jaeger (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) as well as senior Amanda Johnson (West Bloomfield, Mich./Lahser), juniors Katie Smith (Plano, Texas/Hebron) and Michelle Uhlig (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area), and sophomore Noelle Martin (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) round out the Maize squad.
Team Blue's roster will be captained by All-American Kaitlyn Brady (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) and features two freshmen in Emily Hanson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and Catherine Nosal (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) as well as four sophomores in All-American Hannah Smith (Dexter, Mich./Dexter), honorable mention All-American Payton Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial), Christine Nichols (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) and Lori Morton (Portage, Mich./Central). A quartet of juniors will also compete for the Blue side in honorable mention All-American Justine Mueller (Monroe, Mich./Monroe), All-Big Ten Conference second team member Valeria Silva (Alexander von Humboldt), Ashley McLaughlin (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) and Wendy Shieh (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron). Annie Stein (Longmont, Colo./Germantown Academy) and Nikki Starr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) are the other seniors on the Blue squad.
Following the opening 200-yard medley relay race, the teams will compete in eight straight short-course individual events and finish with a 500-yard pineapple relay in which the winner receives a case of pineapple.
The Wolverines open the dual-meet season next weekend as they host the University of Florida on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14, 1 p.m.) at Canham Natatorium.
